The following pertains to the MS ACCESS files for the Cabeza Prieta vegetation maps of Jim Malusa School of Natural Resources and the Environment University of Arizona 204 Biological Sciences East Tucson, Arizona 85721 (jimmalusa@hotmail.com) The data are in tables in the file named PlotData. IMPORTANT: all UTM coordinates in the tblgeoreference are NAD 1927 UTM. However, the digital map data -- both drg's and doqq's -- are UTM NAD 1983. Keep this in mind if you wish to make a layer directly from the UTM's from this database. The NAD 1927 UTM Zone 12N must be specified to make the sample sites appear correctly on the 1983 NAD DRGs and DOQQs. Even then, the "identify results" table that appears when using the "info" button will be the 1927 NAD coordinates directly from the Access database. All the samples(releves) were from the Cabeza Prieta NWR, the BLM lands adjacent to the east, and the Mohawk Mountains of the Goldwater Range, which was formerly BLM land, and is now managed by the USMC. Data was collected between 1999 and 2002. All samples(releves) are named by the 7.5 minute quad sheet on which they're found, and in the order they were sampled. AS-1 is the first from Ajo South, etc. IMPORTANT: The Brown Lowe and Pase veg type 154.1215R is, in this study, association 154.181 (Arroyos with beds >5m). BLP veg type 224.5200 is association 154.180. (Bosque) THE DATABASE TABLES INLCUDE: tblreleve -- the sample data for all sites, BLM and Cabeza Prieta. tblVegProm_summ --- this includes the information on the prominence, height, and cover of the perennial species at each sample site. This file includes the info for ALL sample sites, including the Cabeza Prieta. See tblplants for all the species recorded on the BLM and Cabeza, along with their four letter taxonomic codes. All the other tables are descriptions of the data, not the data itself. E.g., tblcover is the cover classes, tblgeoreference is the UTM coordinates in NAD 1927. tlbplants is the taxonomic code for each species. The list include all the perennial plants thus far encountered, BLM and Cabeza. Some names are outdated, e.g., Cercidium floridum is now Parkinsonia floridum, and most Opuntia are now Cylindropuntia. Keep this in mind during queries. tblSynonymy list the synonyms; it is linked to the tbl plants, where appropriate. THE DATABASE QUERIES INCLUDE: There are many queries buried in the database; these were used to generate the statistical tables in the report, "Vegetation of the Cabeza Prieta NWR". They are retained here only because there was no good reason to delete them; they may be of incidental interest.
