| dc.description.abstract | ICT for Library and Information Professionals: A Training Package for Developing Countries (ICTLIP) edited by Andrew Large, McGill University, Canada, and published by UNESCO, Bangkok, Thailand consists of 6 modules, namely, Module 1: Introduction to information and communication technologies; Module 2: Introduction to integrated library systems; Module 3: Information seeking in an electronic environment; Module 4: Database design, and information storage and retrieval; Module 5: The Internet as an information resource; and Module 6: Web page concept and design: getting a web site up and running. This is Module 1 (Teacher's Guide) by Lourdes T. David. Module 1 covers the basic concepts of information and communication technologies, the impact of ICT on society and the reasons why librarians need to acquire ICT knowledge and skills. By the end of the course, students should be able to: 1. Describe how computers process information 2. Use a personal computer system for various tasks in libraries 3. Define how networks (LAN, WAN, intranet, Internet) operate 4. Recognize the significance of computers and networks in the creation, collection, consolidation and communication of information 5.
