dc.description.abstractThis paper surveys the tools of the open movement in public libraries as effective alternatives to commercial products. The potential benefits to service from free and open technologies such as Koha, Wordpress, and Scriblio, as well as open education resources, are discussed. The adoption of free and open tools is critical to the future of public libraries, especially in the face of severe budget cuts.
