A groundwater management model for the Tajo basin, Spain was developed. The response matrix approach was utilized to incorporate the hydrology into the management model. An existing simulation model containing non-linear boundary conditions was used together with a quasi-linearization technique to obtain the response functions. A procedure was developed to treat uncontrolled pumpage in the aquifer. Various management models were formulated, and a particular linear programming problem was solved. This model indicated the maximum possible extractions within a twenty-five year period. Drawdown within the production wells were limited to reasonable values.Type
