The subject of this thesis is the development of an expert system to offer advising for variance reduction technique (VRT) selection in simulation. Simulation efficiency is increased by appropriate use of variance reduction techniques. The process of selecting VRTs brings a sharper focus to issues of experimental design and thus to the very purpose and objectives to be attained by the simulation. Students in the University of Arizona Systems and Industrial Engineering Department graduate courses are the intended users of this expert system, with the expectation that their practice of simulation will be facilitated.Type
