With the massive increase in smartphone usage in recent years has come a new focus on multimedia applications. Because of this increase and the large amount of energy used by these applications, there has become a need for multimedia-specific DVFS for mobile devices. This paper examines the potential for energy savings in multimedia applications on Android devices. It also discusses the viability of a CPU governor to provide these savings through buffer monitoring, including different methods used in an attempt to implement this.Type
