Christopher Marlowe’s Edward II and William Shakespeare’s Richard II have many elements in common. The similarities between the two works are significant enough to warrant suspicion that Shakespeare may have "borrowed" from Edward II when he wrote his play. This thesis explores the similarities and differences between Edward II and Richard II, discusses whether or not there is a connection between them, and ties these similarities and differences to Marlowe and Shakespeare’s choices as playwrights.Type
