In recent years there has been a trend towards the wider use of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products in space missions. One obvious source of COTS solutions is FTI equipment, since this equipment is rugged, compact and state of the art. However, issues associated with even greater reliability demands and tolerance to radiation effects have to be considered. This paper discusses the use of COTS FTI data acquisition and recording equipment on board spacecraft vehicle. It describes techniques used to characterize and qualify this equipment for space missions and demonstrates its practical usage with a case study.Sponsors
