The influence of carrier frequency on broadband signal-to-noise ratio is derived for a frequency modulated tape recording system. Optimum signal-to-noise performance occurs at the value of carrier frequency where the carrier-to-noise ratio is falling at 6 dB/octave. Signal-to-noise ratio is relatively insensitive to changes in carrier frequency about the optimum value.Sponsors
