This paper discusses all-digital techniques for receiving and coherently detecting moderate data rate (less than 1 Mbps) PSK signals in real time. A receiver employing synchronous bandpass sampling and A/D conversion of the IF signal is described. Sampler synchronization, bit synchronization, and data detection are performed by a special-purpose digital processor. Analytical methods are developed for predicting receiver performance, and experimental data is presented to indicate the degree of agreement that one might expect.Sponsors
