dc.description.abstract | A method of implementing a maximum likelihood synchronizer for baseband signals in Gaussian noise is presented along with analysis and measurements of its noise performance. Results are given showing the noise jitter of the synchronizer as a function of the energy per bit to noise power density ratio for various parameters of the synchronizer system. The Cramer Rao inequality is used to give a qualitative description of the system noise performance in terms of the signal structure. Finally the noise performance of this technique is compared with several other techniques which are currently used to synchronize baseband PCM signals. | |
