AbstractThe telemetry of the deceleration loading upon a vehicle which deeply penetrates the earth at high speeds is described. The technique consists of using a single-channel, narrow-band FM transmitter to drive a magnetic dipole so that RF communication with above-ground receivers is provided. A 260-kHz, 340-watt system with a 2-kHz bandwidth is described along with design considerations. The reduction of the conductivity along the signal path by the penetration tunnel with consequent signal enhancement is discussed.
