This paper is devoted to the problem of tracking data-transitions in digital communication systems by means of decision-directed phase-tracking loops. Such techniques are of interest because these methods provide the receiver with a knowledge of the time instants when the modulation may change states without using the additional transmitter power. The results presented are useful in designing synchronizing circuitry for a wide variety of digital systems. One particular system mechanization plan is presented.Sponsors
