dc.description.abstract | The Apollo lunar-exploration missions are being planned for the purpose of obtaining comprehensive scientific data. The system descriptions and key signal-design considerations for two data transmission systems - the Phase II Scientific Data System and the Particles and Fields Subsatellite - are discussed. In both cases, the designs are constrained by the requirements to (1) use the existing spacecraft systems where possible, (2) use the existing ground stations, and (3) maintain the existing Apollo communications capabilities. | |
