A wayside underground communication system using leaky electromagnetic transmission line nets is presented in this paper. This leaky line or cable enables radio wave propagation through tunnels and out-of-sight places via combined cable and atmospheric transmission. It is also an all-purpose communication link which provides telemetry, communication, traffic control, emergency capabilities, paging, TV surveillance, fire detection, and fire control.Sponsors
