An instrument capable of remotely monitoring trace atmospheric constituents is described. The instrument, called a Laser Absorption Spectrometer, can be operated from an aircraft or spacecraft to measure the concentration of selected gases in three dimensions. This device will be particularly useful for rapid determination of pollutant levels in urban areas.Sponsors
