This paper describes the experimental Broadband Biomedical Communications network being developed by the Public Health Service. This network will combine modern satellite communications technology with modified television broadcast techniques to support health experiments in decentralized education, research dissemination and teleconferencing. Small satellite earth terminals will be located in six cities to transmit and receive audiovisual programs. This network will incorporate the Canadian-American Communications Technology Satellite (CTS) to evaluate the cost-effective use of interactive broadband communications systems.Sponsors
