dc.description.abstractThe concept of employing standard spaceborne hardware to meet the needs of present and future spaceborne missions is the beginning of a new era. In this paper, attention is focused on describing the functional characteristics of a 4 x 10⁹ bit magnetic tape recorder that will become the standard tape recorder for future satellite missions. The recorder development was directed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
