dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this paper is to consider optical system performance for selected digital signal formats when shot noise limited avalanche photodetection is implemented. Performance characteristics for binary on-off keyed (OOK) and pulse position modulation (PPM) are given, in addition to M-ary PPM and PAM.
