Computer industry and government standards have had a profound effect on modern telemetry ground stations. Installations are no longer one-of-a-kind inflexible systems built to the specifications of a single user - meeting their needs without regard to the rest of the community. This paper will examine the effect that the evolution of significant graphics, network, operating system, and architecture standards has had on commercial telemetry ground station system products. It will also explore the issue of "open" versus proprietary architectures. The paper closes with a description of a system designed from its very inception to meet and grow with standards.Sponsors
