The Classical Greek and Roman civilizations have left behind a remarkable amount of literature. These ancient texts, as well as some general principles of Classical Greek and Roman culture, have heavily influenced British and American fiction during the twentieth and twentyfirst centuries. This essay examines the ways ancient texts have been reappropriated and reinterpreted to inspire and enrich modern Western literature.Type
