An increasing number of processes are being moved from the host computer to a versatile, smaller front end preprocessor. This paper discusses the reasons for preprocessing and presents a general purpose preprocessor. Use of the preprocessor in mapping MIL 1553 Multiplex Bus data is described as well as the more routine tasks of data merging and identification, compression, engineering units conversion, array forming, and data sorting.Sponsors
