AbstractCoherent detection of full response M-ary digital FM corrupted by additive white gaussian noise is studied. Prior to detection processing the signal plus noise is bandpass filtered and sampled. Upper error bounds which are applicable to the sampled system are given. With these bounds some comparisons of the effects of system parameter selection on the error performance can be made. These system parameters include deviation ratio, baseband pulse shape, sampling rate, number of levels (M), and signal-to-noise ratio.
