The Western Space and Missile Center has requirements to record high bit rate PCM telemetry data in both predetection and post-detection formats. Recording time is inadequate using standard wideband instrumentation magnetic tape recorder/reproducers. Using double density recording technology, recording time can be doubled, but results in some degradation in recorder performance. This paper discusses the effects of double density recording on recorder performance and on the quality of high bit rate telemetry data.Sponsors
