The Valley Fever Center for Excellence was established in 1996 with the mission to promote research of the Coccidioides spp., the fungi that are the causative agents of coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever). Research efforts include the study of the epidemiology of the disease in a variety of species as well as new diagnostic tests and treatments, including the development of a vaccine to prevent the disease in dogs and humans.
