The purpose of this secondary data analysis was to investigate the difference in burden of illness and resources and relationships among burden of illness, resources, and quality of life in persons with rheumatoid arthritis, persons with other arthritic conditions, and persons with systemic lupus erythematosus. In burden of illness there was a significant difference in number of years ill, dependency, and uncertainty among the three groups. There was no difference in resources among the three groups. Except for disability payments and having attended self-help classes, there was a negative relationship between burden of illness and resources in persons with rheumatoid arthritis, persons with other arthritic conditions, and persons with systemic lupus erythematosus. A negative correlation was found between burden of illness and quality of life. Except for disability payments, there was a positive correlation between resources and quality of life.en_US
