dc.descriptionPlot 2 is one of 16 plots (claims) that comprise a 229.14 acre lease for vanadium that was signed in 1941. This lease was called the West Reservation Lease by the lessee Vanadium Corporation of America (VCA). The large mines on Plot 6 of this lease were named Rattlesnake, not for the reptiles, but for the blotchy pattern of yellow uranium and black vanadium minerals that resembled a rattlesnake's back (Earl Saltwater, oral communication, 1954).
