    Description
Chiricahua National Monument is best known for spectacular rock pinnacles or columns. These features were shaped, in large part, by freezing, thawing, and running water during the last Ice Age, when climatic conditions were cooler and wetter than they are now. More subtle processes are currently modi:£) ring the pinnacles and related features. Today's scenery is, therefore, a mosaic of relict and modern geologic features, each of which contributes its unique form, color, and texture to the landscape. The purpose of this guide is to provide an understanding of the dynamic processes that have shaped this exceptional landscape. The guide was written for the visitor who has not had formal training in geology, but will also be useful to those who have. Please take it with you as you hike the Monument's trails.
