Allison, M.L. and Dickinson, T.L., 2008, A workshop on the role of state geological surveys and U.S. Geological Survey in a geological information system for the nation. Arizona Geological Survey Open File Report, OFR-08-01, 22 p.
    Description
The two-day workshop held February 21-22, 2007 included representatives of the Association of American State Geologists (AASG) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The group recommended that the nation’s Geological Surveys1 should develop a national Geological Information Network (GIN) that is distributed, interoperable, uses open source standards and common protocols, respects and acknowledges data ownership, fosters communities of practice to grow, and develops new web services and clients.
