The intent of this publication is to provide individuals and companies anticipating mineral exploration or mining in Arizona with a clear picture of the permitting process. This document is an honest attempt to present all the permits that may be required by a mining operator in Arizona. Despite our best efforts, it is probably not complete. As an operator, it is your responsibility to obtain all necessary permits. Guides such as this will help, but we recommend you contact the federal, state, county and local agencies in the area where you plan to locate your operations. In addition to listing and describing the permits you may need, we have also provided suggestions on how to navigate the permitting process. Our suggestions focus on two crucial elements: 1) Have a good, well thought out exploration or mine plan, and 2) Communicate with regulatory agencies. Communication is essential and will save you time, money, and frustration in permitting your operations. The preparation of this text involved considerable effort. It is important that all of us, agencies, operators and concerned citizens alike - make an effort to keep it current and accurate. As you begin to work with this document and you find data missing, inaccurate, or out of date, we ask you to relay this information to: Bureau of Land Management Arizona State Office Attn: Mining Law Program Lead 222 N.
