dc.descriptionHe had just returned from Over There. He had witnessed the scenes we have read about, as well as many which have never been described by the press. For ten months he had been in active service, until the day "he got his." Then came a trip to "Blighty" and three months in an English hospital. For four years before America's entry into the war he had been safety supervisor for a great manufacturing concern which employed approximately five thousand men and it was to a part of this force that he was to speak this day. The men in the audience, a majority of whom the speaker knew personally, were all attention as they listened to the description of the American Training Camps, the transporting of troops through the submarine zone, the landing in England, the trip across the channel, the French Camps, the movements of the troops up to the fighting line and the bitter struggle of the Infantry as the lines surged back and forth. Then followed a description of the shot that meant a long, slow trip back through the series of hospitals until finally in a ward in London came the knowledge that as far as he was concerned the war was over. After this the weeks of waiting before he could be invalided home to America, the land for which he had been fighting, the home of the brave.12 p.
