dc.description | At least two of the essential conditions in the construction of a building are that it shall be so designed and equipped as to afford a given number of employees healthful and safe surroundings during the performance of their duties. Reference is made to ventilation, illumination and the installing of safeguards. \Where the principles of sanitation have not entered into the design and construction of a building, it is imperative that we exercise every care to minimize or overcome such defects. In many respects the life of an employee is influenced by the circumstances of his surroundings and it is evident that his life is increased in value in direct proportion to the improvement in safety conditions of his immediate environments. It is self-evident that the health, strength, and endurance of an organization can be no greater than that of all its members, consequently every individual either adds to or detracts from the sum of the organization's productivity in direct proportion to his standards of health. An imperfect piece of machinery cannot turn out perfect work-neither can an employee who has neglected his work. Productive efficiency is gauged by physical well-being. 16 p. | |
