DescriptionThe value of mineral production in Arizona was $981 million, 16 percent below the $1,167 million of 1970. Income from the mineral industry ranked second to manufacturing among sources of income. Copper accounted for $853 million, 87 percent of the total value of minerals produced. The State continued to lead the nation in copper output, which was 820,171 tons; was second in silver, 6.2 million troy ounces; second in molybdenum, 22.7 million pounds; and fourth in gold 94,038 troy ounces. 20 p.
