In Los Angeles County, there are more than 60,000 individuals living with HIV. Latinos are disproportionally affected by HIV. In 2013, 46% of new diagnoses occurred among Latinos. Initiation in HIV antiretroviral therapy and retention in care are crucial in reducing the morbidity and mortality of patients living with HIV (PLWH). Studies have shown that adherence to ART and a sense of belonging can be achieved through active participation in support groups. This aim of this project was to assess the need of a support group for PLWH and receiving care at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center, a clinic in South Central Los Angeles. The project used qualitative descriptive analysis of semi-structured interviews to assess this need. Ten interviews were conducted among Latino patients living with HIV. The participants included 8 men and 2 women. All participants were Spanish speaking, living in LA County. Most participants believed they have people around them that could help them in times of need. Most participants said they would participate in a support group for PLWH. The number one motivation to join a support group was the opportunity to make new friends. Most participants reported good adherence to ART. The barrier most mentioned for joining a support group was time constraints due to work. Fear of people finding out, was another barrier mentioned by a few participants.
