The purpose of this thesis is to provide an evidence-based informational brochure for families regarding music therapy for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Music therapy has been shown to stimulate the brain in areas of cognitive function, social interaction, as well as its emotional and physical domains. Research supports how music therapy increases appropriate social behaviors, attention to tasks, increased verbalizations and communications, improved body awareness, and reduced anxiety amongst children with ASD. This paper presents a review of literature to provide an educational pamphlet with evidence-based information for parents or caregivers regarding the benefits of music therapy as a nonpharmacological intervention for their children with ASD.Type
