dc.description.abstractThe report presents a design for a plant that treats groundwater in the Black Canyon City area by reducing the amount of arsenic in the water to meet the MCL standard, as determined by the EPA. The EPA guidelines state that the amount of arsenic present in groundwater must be under 10 ppb. Long term exposure to arsenic has been linked to several health issues including cancer and Blackfoot disease. There are many different ways to remove arsenic from water. The designed process for this project includes four major unit operations -- chlorination, adsorption, desorption, and arsenic precipitation. Post-treatment, the arsenic level in the water will be below the MCL, making it safe for human consumption.
