| dc.description | The Page Springs Quadrangle is in the northern part of Verde Valley in north-central Arizona, at the northern edge of the Transition Zone between the Colorado Plateau and the Basin and Range (Fig. 1). Paved access to the southeast quadrant of the map is provided by Arizona State Route 89A (formerly US89A) and Yavapai County Route 50; other parts of the map area can be reached by graded and ungraded U.S. Forest roads and informal tracks appropriate for 4-wheel drive vehicles. The western half of the quadrangle is covered by fluvial and lacustrine rocks of the Miocene and Pliocene Verde Formation, and Miocene volcanic rocks occupy most of the eastern half; Permian sedimentary rocks underlie the northeast corner. All geologic contacts and faults in the volcanic area were traced in the field; aerial photographs supplemented field mapping in tracing contacts and faults in the Permian strata. Volcanic map units were defined on the bases of lithology, structure, and morphology, and stratigraphic relations were determined in the field on the basis of traditional geologic principles such as superposition and cross-cutting relations. *This item has been archived, the most up to date version of this data can be located here: http://hdl.handle.net/10150/634884 | |
