dc.description.abstractmatriarch is an installation reflecting upon the death of my grandmother. Centered around a three-part experimental documentary of the same name, it considers the ways in which my family goes about mourning and recalibrating our relationships in her absence. The installation also features a photobook, including scraps of our writing, photos I have taken of her, as well as her own photographs that have been over time damaged by water. The installation is anchored by a corner cupboard holding her purse and a poem. matriarch reconfigures traditional family forms of remembering, delving into obscured family secrets as a way of more honestly seeing my loved ones and myself.
