An inexpensive, easily constructed balance was made to measure plant phytomass from clipped quadrats. It can be fabricated from materials generally available in developing countries and, within the designed range, it is accurate enough to provide reliable estimates of standing crop. Since balances are easily and inexpensively constructed they can be made in quantity and distributed to local extension agents and farmers.Type
