dc.description.abstractDestructive feeding by insects delayed early spring development of native shortgrass range nearly 2 months. Although the perennial grasses and most forbs recovered, growth of several plant species was prevented completely for one growing season. Evidence indicated spotted cutworm [Amathes c-nigrum (L.)] larvae may have been responsible.
