This paper introduces a new method of estimating plant biomass from a series of randomly located quadrats. A mixture of the binomial and lognormal distributions provide a more realistic probability density function than the commonly used normal distribution. Point and interval estimators are derived using the method of Maximum Likelihood (ML). Example calculations illustrate the method.Type
