An optimum sampling strategy was developed for predicting frequency values for all plant species occurring in an area. The approach uses both multistage and double-sampling procedures to predict the frequency of occurrence of all species. The application of these procedures to one grassland area resulted in an average saving of 26% in the number of sample quadrats required to determine the frequency of all species.Type
