An objective method of classifying grassland vegetation is used to evaluate similarities of species composition between stands. The procedure used for the classification involved the calculation of a change in diversity that occurred when vegetation units, such as stands, were combined into larger units. Some species were noted to occur in several stands in such a way as to change diversity which was interpreted in terms of species importance.Type
