The initiation of fall forage growth in the California annual grasslands is dependent upon the first half-inch of effective rainfall. Annual yield of this forage is influenced by the amount of precipitation received by the third week in November. At that time a determination can be made as to whether the expected annual production will be low, medium, or high. A coefficient of correlation value (r = .70), significant at the 1% level, was obtained between yield and total rainfall through November 20.Type
