This paper presents a new technique for designing a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) based on a novel architecture by avoiding the usage of a varactor, or a capacitive tuning element which enables high power VCO output. With conventional designs, high power is not possible due to rectification occurring in the varactor diode. The High Power Varactorless VCO (HPV2CO) eliminates the need of several pre-power amplifier stages in conventional telemetry products. Utilizing this technology allows for a single stage transmitter thereby resulting in more compact designs.Type
