The Babble On podcast is a six-episode audio journalism project that explores the question “who is talking about sex workers and why?” Increasingly, sex workers themselves are seizing the means of narration and this podcast was born out of my enthusiasm witnessing this trend. In each half-hour episode, I speak with sex worker storytellers, some with decades of experience in the sex industry, who use a variety of platforms in order to share their experiences with their audiences. The storytellers utilize a variety of platforms including social media, podcasts, videos, documentaries, blogs, zines, magazines, and books. Non-sex working journalists who cover the sex industry are also featured. In each episode, we discuss sources’ creative methods, experience as a storyteller, and what the role of storytelling is in the sex workers rights movement. The podcast also examines whether or not storytelling has been a tool in the sex workers rights movement and its efficacy. This podcast aims to direct audience members to resources that can be used to support sex workers, both creatively and politically. The podcast is available on most major podcasting platforms. I also created and operated social media pages to promote the show.Type
