In this thesis project, I partake in classical reception and write an alternate story of the life of Dido, the mythical founder and Queen of Carthage. I interact with sources such as Virgil’s Aeneid and Justin’s Epitome of the Philippic History of Pompeius Trogus. I include the first and last chapter of this novel, as well as a detailed outline of the events of the chapters in-between. Each chapter is followed by a detailed commentary of the way in which I interact with the ancient sources, as well as my analysis of the themes I incorporate throughout – for example feminism and female agency. In my introduction I explain my intentions with the piece, as well as detailing the process of writing a piece of reception and analyzing other pieces which I have drawn inspiration from.Type
