My thesis is a creative collection of poetry, and includes twelve different poems that all fit into the grouping in individual ways. The poems involve themes I feel are characteristic of this age and time in life, including directionlessness, yearning, exploration, and self discovery. The poems can be taken and read on their own, but also fit into the larger grouping which reflects my poetic impulses and inspirations, particularly from this past academic year. I strove for a certain honesty and attempted to push past the poem on the surface to whatever is aching to be brought to the page from beneath. I view this collection as a minor time capsule of my wonderings and wantings at twenty-one, and I am eager to discover how these will continue to evolve in my future exploration of the discipline. I think poetry, like any creative medium, is a tool for expression, but perhaps more important to me, it provides an outlet for me to engage with my love of language, its allowances and limitations, and the limitlessness of its possibilities for revelation.Type
