AbstractThis honors thesis addresses the crucial need to recognize that young adult women who identify as having a disability also report low self-esteem. The paper begins by exploring definitions of disability, the intersection of gender identity and disability, and the concept of self-esteem. In terms of self-esteem more specifically, the paper discusses examples of high and low self-esteem and the way in which they play a role in overall mental health and general self-worth. This composition also goes one step further, and explores potential causes for low self-esteem amongst this population. Finally, the thesis concludes with an outline of a five-point empowerment workshop, developed from extensive research on improving the self-esteem of disabled women.
