dc.description.abstract | An increased number of mentally ill individuals in the community has resulted in a greater need for mental health training for law enforcement. Since people with mental health issues do not think rationally and are in more danger to themselves and others, the Crisis Intervention Team model was developed to help. Studies have shown that the model is effective. However, there is a gap: the meaning of the word effective. What is considered effective and effective in what context are just some of the questions currently not answered clearly. This literature review intends to answer these questions and fill the gap of how effective the CIT model truly is by examining a vast majority of current CIT literature. Recommendations for future research are discussed. | |
